By May, it seems that Herbert was in Queenstown. In the letter of 7 May he refers to going to Fort Beaufort, which was Phemie's home town and apparently he was going to see her there as he told her not to get too excited!
In the next letter, she was going to come by train to visit him in Queenstown.

I had to smile. Grandpa said that his Father was impressed by his girlfriend for her lovely teeth. No mention of good looks, charm or personality- just strong, white teeth!
